How did you end up working in Human Resources? What brought you here?

I’m from Mexico, and I was an HR assistant over there at my mom’s company. Here at The Carvonis Group, I started out in an entry-level position in a sales role. When Krystoff [Carvonis] saw my resume, my work ethic, and that I had been really committed to the job in Mexico, he offered me the HR position. I love what HR entails, so I said yes and I’ve been here since that day!

What do you love most about HR?

What I like the most about what I do is that I get to know a little bit about every candidate. I take the time to get to know everyone who submits their resume. I see their experience but I want to know a little more about their interests. Everybody has a story. I get to know a little bit about each person’s life and learn about their goals. I just love interacting with people.

What advice would you give to your younger self when you were coming out of school and starting down the HR path?

JackieQuote1If you were to ask me where I saw myself in a year when I was back in Mexico, I definitely would have said with my mom. I always gave 100 percent as a student. Being a recent graduate, I knew that I had the potential to do what I’m doing now, but I hadn’t taken advantage of it. When I came to Miami with my husband, I didn’t have a lot of experience and I was struggling to find a job, but quitting has never been an option for me. I would have told myself that if somebody gives you an opportunity, just take it and make it work!
