Want to know the secret to all our success here at The Carvonis Group (Miami)? A whole lot of hard work! We love seeing the results of all our efforts, but the truth is that sometimes hard work is just that: hard. Even when you’re working at your dream job, it can be tough to find your focus sometimes. Before you know it, it’s the end of the day and you’ve barely made a dent in your to-do list. But the show must go on, nobody is going to get your work done for you! That’s why we’re sharing 4 of our favorite focus-boosting tips to help you keep hustling toward your goals!
1) Don’t multitask
You may think that multitasking makes you more productive because you’re working on multiple tasks at a time, but the effect of multitasking on productivity is actually the opposite. When you multitask, you’re only devoting a small portion of your attention to each project, which reduces brain performance and efficiency. Research shows that in some cases, multitasking can actually lower your IQ! Whoa.
2) Schedule work breaks
Splitting up your workday with a short break each hour has been proven to to increase your work performance. Your focus inevitably decreases over time, a phenomenon known as “vigilance decrement,” which is unfortunately unavoidable. These short breaks re-energize and revitalize your brain, allowing you to work more productively and efficiently.
3) Download an online distraction blocker
There is a whole host of applications and web browser extensions designed to help maximize your productivity. Programs like SelfControl, StayFocusd, Focus, and others allow you to choose certain distracting websites to block for a predetermined period of time each day. These are great options for when you need to get some serious work done but might not have the willpower to stay away from social media and other online distractions.
4) Eat superfoods
Stocking your work bag with superfood snacks is another great way to get a boost of focus. Foods such as blueberries, beets, broccoli, dark chocolate, avocados, and nuts are full of antioxidants. Antioxidants are great for improving your concentration and memory because they increase the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain!
